For Week: Wednesday, September 15 -- Examples of what we DIDN"T liked
Link Description
America on Line I am criticizing one of the giants! I find their home page crowded and difficult to find to locate specific items. You really have to look for the E-Mail link. this should be more prominantly displayed. There are too many links and to much advertising. Many of their links also sound similar and you may go somewhere where you are not trying to get.
Hollywood The author of this webpage did not even get started on his site yet, and has a plain screen with a promise to build a site real soon. I cannot remember what I searched to find this page, but what is the harm of putting up a temporary page that has some color or one nice picture? Maybe this author has not learned how to do this, so I will say that I am sorry that I made so much noise. (Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that I am up so early and my wife is so peacefully asleep in the next room?)
Pop Culture I could not resist finding a site that is knee deep in pop culture overload, and I do not mean to offend anyone. However, S. Lexus finds the time to maintain a site at http://www.angelfire.com/ms/slexus/ that is huge and filled with infomation about Ricky Martin. Now, I am not picking on Ricky, but we have been bombarded with his pictures and songs, so this site was a natural. It goes on forever and ever and shows a devotion that borders on obsession. Stalkers on the web? This site should set off a few bells.
Learning in Motion If you access this site, you are suppose to get a list of the top ten web sites for education which claims to be updated monthly. Well when I accessed the site to get the top ten web sites for education this month, I found that the site had not been updated since May/June.
Children's Software Press This web site had too many graphics on its' home page, particularly these red squares running across the page. The squares made it difficult to read the contents on the page.
Lesson Plans This is a website that can be a wonderful resource for teachers since it is another source for lesson plans. However, there were no graphics and it looked boring.
Teachers Net This seems to be another wonderful place for teachers to get loads of helpful ideas for teaching, but I found the 3 different columns confusing and overwhelming. Is there a better way to do this?
SciEd First of all, this URL is too long. I still cannot figure out how to copy to my e-mail. I get getting kicked out, one day. I chose this website because it said, ". . . Science and Math . . .;" but after fishing around for a very long time, I couldn't find any math. All that fishing I did, way too many links. I got lost quite a few times and forgot what I was trying to accomplish. There were no graphics on the homepage or the first few links I checked out. The one link I knew had graphics refused my connection. Why? I know the computer I was on had enough memory, bytes or whatever you call it.
Portia I went to this site with the promised lure of free recipies, wwwboards, and interesting information about a new author. None of this was evident. This site is about the business of selling books. I guess this is tantamont to the free cell phone for $.01 ;then after examining the ad closely, you discover a 15 year contract along with the promise of your first child's inheritance rights. This ad also promised "free links." Is there such a thing as "priced" links?

Link Description
The Library Spot a clean, well-organized page that contains categorized lists of links. A teacher can go to this page to do some incredible research. There are links to other on-line libraries and even on-line classrooms. I really like the fact that there are links to numerous references such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, and almanacs
Allnighter Webmaster University This has numerous links, and the are listed under such categories as CORE CURRICULUM which includes links to an intro to HTML, a list of internet terms, and even a list to the Webopedia which is an online encyclopedia
Ask Dr. WebSite This site offers a variety of links for the new, as well as the, experienced webpage builder. With links to graphics, photo editors, and technical support, how can you go wrong?
McNeese College The home page is not very fancy; it is direct and to the point. Every link is short so its hard to get lost within the website. Since I am a beginner on the Web, I found this less intimidating.
LSU College of Educaiton The home page has two choices, one with graphics and one without graphics. There is a link from the home page to the home page without graphics. I guess this is for people who do not have a computer with "endless" capabilities
Every College in U.S. This web site gives an entire listing of all the colleges located in the United States that have web sites available.
Internet Technology Services This sites has a step-by-step instructional guide to building web pages, downloading free software, and updating other programs. It also goes into detail about other technological problems you may encounter while using the internet. I found this to be a great site for those who a novice at using the computer and understanding the internet.
Xavier University Xavier's web site is so vibrant and vivid. The Center for the Advancement of Teaching icon lets you update software for free. This website will hold the attention of anyone who is browsing through it. Take the time and explore they many interesting features available on their site.
University of Georgia This site has "online" grad school forms. No waste of time here.
KIDPROJ KIDPROJ is a site that teachers and youth group leaders use from around the world to plan activities and projects for their students' participation. The site allows for students to correspond with other students in their native language as well as participate in many cross-cultural projects involving games, family, history, songs, etc. A very interesting website for teachers looking to add some international flavor, and hands on projects to their instruction.
OnLine Classroom Online Class is a web site that allows teachers to integrate the Internet into classroom teaching. Some things included on the site are: collaborative activities among schools; activities for the classroom; recommended reading for Internet educators; Teacher workshops on using the Internet; and Teacher support.
The Teacher Zone Teacher-Zone.com, a development of CEW Publications, touts itself as "not the biggest, but simply the best web site for educators and future educators." This site offers several comprehensive services for teachers, students, and parents. The College Resource Center contains information for students regarding student loans, student teaching, and study resources. The Parent Zone helps parents find resources on web safety, parenting skills, and much more. The Student Resources service offers access to students, who need assistance with homework, research, and more. The Teacher-Zone is a kaleidoscope of lesson plans, resources, and added attractions.
City College of New Youk This is a site which links you to an on-line course at City College of New York. This course is called World Civilization 101Q. It is part of their remote learning program on the World Wide Web presented by the History Dept. If you would like to give your students some examples of college work and assignments, why not try to tap into sources such as these. This site contains primary readings such as "Hernand Cortez's letter upon meeting Montezuma.
