Class Participation
EDCI 4993, Spring 1999

Attend Class

Attendance is expected and required. More than 2 unexcused absences automatically result in a grade of (D). Additional absences result in a grade of (F) unless an agreement is reached on how the work missed can be completed quickly. If you know that you will be absent, and if possible, please let me know in advance. Call 834-1891 or 280-5466 or e-mail gnorth@mac.com

Participate

Class participation is worth 30 points of the 90 points needed to earn an (A) in this class. These points are earned by attending class, by participating in class, by asking and answering questions, and by helping your classmates when needed.

Class participation will also include wearing the redCap during at least four (4) regular class meetings. redCaps answer questions from other students in class. Teaching others can make your own learning more concrete. In class, only redCaps may ask me (the instrctor) questions. For example, all question will go first to redCaps ... then to me if necessary ... and finally back the redCap returns with an answer. By this I hope to put all students in real life situations providing support for teachers using technology. There will be 3 or 4 redCaps in class at any given time. It mignt me a good idea for redCaps to huddle and attempt to answer questions as a team before asking me (the instructor).

Quizzes

Class participation credits are also earned by taking weekly quizzes. Quiz grades are not important, taking the quizzes is important. Quiz questions will be designed to help students identify important skills and concepts. The most likely use of Quizzes will be question and answer sessions at the beginning of each class. Please come prepared to ask questions ... you will make your instructor very happy.

E-mail & List Server

Class participation credits are also earned by vigorous use of E-mail, which also includes the list server for this class named "redCap." Sending mail to our list server, "redCap," is as simple as sending any E-mail. redCap's address is redCap@ed.uno.edu. Mail sent to redCap is automatically repeated to everyone on the redCap list. Since everyone in our class is a member of redCap, one message sent to redCap is equal to sending a message to everyone. .
