Questions: if you don't ask, I can't tell?

House Keeping
  • Check assignment for next week.
  • I won't always mention Links to Explore, but there will almost always be something new each week.
  • Be sure to check the Full Schedule for what's upcoming. For example, your self-assessment rubrics are due in two weeks.
  • If you didn't receive eMail for our class list, then 1) you haven't read your mail since last class, or 2) I eMail address on the list is incorrect. Please let me know. It is important to your learning in our class to be corresponding with iceCap@ed.uno.edu -- and by direct connection to our whole class.
  • Before leaving class tonight, make sure you understand the assignment for next class.
  • Be sure you know how to maintain your class web page ... it will be part of your assignment next week (due in two weeks).
  • How are you doing in building your personal To-Do-List? Please review the Objectives for this class. This list will form the foundation for constructing your the rubrics that will be used at the end of the semester to complete the self evaluation.
  • Keep in mind that sometime time soon I will expect that everyone has purchased education based software for themselves and/or their classrooms. This is a $ for $ swap for not having to purchase books for this class.
  • In class this week:
    1. This week's class and the assignments for next week meet in whole or part objectives #s 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 18, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27.
    2. I will always forget to cover something from this list -- feel free to remind me of what I missed.
    3. Don't forget (every week) to do your house keeping ... see above -- i.e. saving the groceries, etc?
    4. Anyone remember a .com commercial from the SuperBowl?
    5. Tell me "What are cybersquatting concerns?"
    6. What is "Knowledge Mining?"
    7. Let's talk rubrics! What part of your self-assessment requires you to develop a rubric?
    8. Since we spent part of last class talking about what skills already exist in our class, who will offer some additional insight into what we already know?
    9. We will meet in groups again tonight, I expect that one member from each group will talk to me before leaving tonight about your developing group dynamics.
    10. Tell me, what do you think is the purpose of the discussions during our first weeks of class?
    11. As a teacher yourself, what are some of the factors that contributed to your teaching style? What are the theories governing your teaching & learning?
    12. Who will ask me about my teaching <--> learning theory?
    13. What is the importance of documents in education?
    14. What is MultiMedia?
    15. What is an authoring environment?
    16. What is an information network?
    17. When you take a college level class (like this one), what do you learn?
Reflecting on your readings during this last week ...
    1. How important is collaboration? As we have discussed technology in education in class, how do you feel -- is collaboration more or less useful, more or less important?
    2. Explain Student Centered. How is this different than classroom activities of just a few years ago?
    3. List some education technologies you know.
    4. Who can put Unbounded in context.
    5. Tell me -- what is the importance of Shared Knowledge?
    6. Authenticity, may very well be a major justification for professional education. Why? Is this a bigger, smaller, same-sized problem today?
    7. Tell me about Chapter 1, 2, 3, etc.
    8. What about fare use policies?
    9. What about access?
    10. Name a ubiquitous education technology.
    Every week
    1. Bring a floppy disk to class ... one that you use on your own computer at home, school, work ... from the computer you plan to use to do your class assignments.
    2. Before leaving class tonight, make sure you understand the assignment for next class.
    3. Send me attendance eMail.

    Assignments
    1. Keep in mind that when you complete the below assignments everyone in class will benefit from your work. This is one great benefit of information networks. Think about it as textbook readings ... except that the whole class reads a little part and tells the others about it. I expect that by the end of our semester together, you will look back on these assignments as very important to your overall learning experience.
    2. Written assignment are due by 4:30 PM, on the Sunday before our next class.
    3. Everyone in class will read Chapter 4 of a book by Dr. Jason Ohler about the History of Technology.
    4. Also, I encourage you to do additional research about the History of Technology in Education. If you find multi-media resources on this topic, especially Web sites, please include their URLs in at the end of your written assignment.
    5. Confused about what to read? This is a link directly to Chapter 4.
    6. eMail iceCap the following:
    7. From your readings and research, list what you consider are the important topics.
    8. In a one page document, summarize what you read. Don't repeat the author, tell me and your classmates what you think about what the author said.
    9. Important suggestion: Use your word processor to create and edit this assignment. Save it for yourself on your own computer. When it is complete, copy and paste the document into an eMail message to iceCap. These assignments can become part of your portfolio if you choose to build on.
