EDCI 4993-604, Spring 2001

Your final grade will be based in large on student's self-evaluation. Check the class syllabus for the due date of your self-evaluation.

Submit self-evaluations as follows: for Parts 1, 2, 3 & 4
  • Part 1: Class Assessment
  • Part 2: Class Participation
  • Part 3: Your Group Projects
  • Part 4: Other Group Projects)
  • Post messages to the Discussion Group setup for this purpose. I suggest that you post 4 messages, one for each part. Please title your messages clearly, for example: "Part 2: Class Participation"

Send eMail to George for Part 5, (give yourself a FINAL grade).

Read the self-evaluation requirements carefully. Be sure you clear up any uncertainties about complying with this course requirement.

    Part 1, Class Assessment:

This requires responses to questions, all of which are intended to encourage you to reflect on your accomplishments in this class. Please compose a 3-page maximum response that addresses questions 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 1 of the other questions below.

When answering these questions, keep in mind that I am asking for your opinion, there are no wrong answers. Explain your answers. Be concrete.

    1. In your personally and/or professional opinion, what was our class, "Technology Integration," about? What was worthwhile, what was not?
    2. Based on your experience in this class, explain why "Technology Integration" is (or is not) important.
    3. What are the two or three things you want to work on in your professional setting as a result of this class?
    4. What did you learn from chatting, Discussion Boards, journalizing, and reading redCap's eMail -- that you couldn't have learned any other way?
    5. What expectations for this class went unmet?
    6. Name one or more things that I (George) did that contributed to your understanding of "Information Networks in the Curricula?"
    7. Where did the "real learning" take place in this class?

Part 2, Class Participation and Evaluation:

Please provide a 1-page maximum analysis and evaluation of your participation in class. Consider some of the following: Do you believe you contributed meaningfully to general class discussions? In what ways? How would you evaluate your skills learned in this class? Were you able to help others in class with skills you learned or had already mastered? Comment on your experience during our virtual class meeting. Comment on our use of Discussion Boards and chat rooms. Comment on weekly journaling.

    Part 3, Your Group Projects:

For each of your group projects (2), provide a 1-page maximum analysis and evaluation for each project. Include a discription of the project and a list of all group members. List the course objectives that were met and how/why. Describe your participation in the project. Descirbe what you learned. Describe what you expected others to learn.

    Part 4, Other Group Projects:

Pick two (2) group projects other than your own. Provide a 1-page maximum analysis and evaluation for each project. Include in your own words a description of the project and a list of all group members. List the course objectives that were met and how/why. Descirbe what learned.

Part 5, Give yourself a Final Grade:

This final part provides you with an opportunity to evaluate your overall class performance. On 1-page maximum, please give yourself a grade [using the point values] for each area of evaluation listed below (and as shown in the syllabus).

How many unexcused absences did you have this semester? Your third unexcused absence automatically result in a grade of (D) You are responsible for bringing to the attention of your instructor any extenuating circumstances.

How many times did you turn-in assignments after the due date. Late assignments are -1 point each (to a maximum of -10 points).

Provide a brief rationale to justify your final grade -- indicate whether you think that your grade reflects what you learned in class. Justify your answer.

  • Two Book Reviews. This is the ONLY assessment (grade) given to you by the instructor. (Note from George: everyone's book reviews were excellent, assume that you earned the full 20 points.)
  • Mid-semester exam -- Class Presentation -- group project, topic of your choice.
  • Final Exam -- Class Presentation -- group project.
  • Participation -- attendance and contributions to in-class activities. This includes redCap -- written assignments posted to our list server, discussion board, field trips, journals, and virtual class meetings.
  • Timely completion of assignments. You cannot receive an "A" in this class unless assignments are completed on or before due dates and times. Everyone's learning depends on your completing assignments. This includes our (almost weekly) written assignments that will be eMailed to redCap or posted on our Discussion Board.

  • Part 6, eMail your final grade to George:

Give yourself a FINAL grade [A, B, C ...] for this class. See example below.
  • My total points
  • 20 of 20 points - Book Reviews -- you received eMail from George with your book review grade.
  • 15 of 20 points - Mid-semester exam -- Class Presentation
  • 20 of 20 points - Final Exam -- Class Presentation
  • 25 of 30 points - Participation
  • 7 of 10 points - Timely completion of assignments.
  • ------------------
  • 87 -- my final grade is B ... using the grading scale in the syllabus
  • Provide a brief rationale to justify your final grade -- indicate whether you think that your grade reflects what you learned in class. Justify your answer.
