Advanced Information Networks

To complete our assignments for exams 1 & 2, we had to first pick two topics to write about. I wrote about fair use guidelines and how teacher education has been affected by technology. We then had to post our ideas for the virtual classes. Then we had to write about some of these topics. One topic I wrote about was software that enables teachers to police their students' Internet usage. Once we had posted to these topics, we had to respond to our classmates' writings, and at the end of the exercise, we posted our reflections on the work.

Book Review 1

Technopoly by Neil Postman (1992)

This was a great book because it followed the advent of technology from its infancy to its current form. Postman lends a critical eye to today's technology in a way which is both logical and thought provoking.

Book Review 2

Tech-Savvy: Educating Girls in the New Computer Age by the AAUW Educational Foundation Commission on Technology, Gender, and Teacher Education (2000)

I really enjoyed this book because it addresses the difficulties faced by females in today's technology rich society. Not only were these problems highlighted, but suggestions were offered to help solve them

"New" Literacy	I was originally uninterested in the idea of media literacy, but after completing my research, I was fascinated by the whole idea of literacy.
Your Personal Computer a virtual chat	This virtual chat was extremely interesting to me. There are a couple of students in our class who are extremely knowledgeable about hardware, and I learned quite a few things from them.
Contemporary Arts Center	This class was an exciting field trip to the Contemporary Arts Center where we enjoyed the "Digital Louisiana" exhibit.
Book Review II questions and answers	This assignment involved questioning each book reviewer about their book. In addition, each reviewer had to answer each of the questions posted by their fellow classmates.
Observations of Technology	To complete this assignment, I had to observe how technology is being used in my environment. I chose to write about how technology is being used in my workplace.
