Design Project

 

            In the wake of the 9-11 tragedy along with the loss of human life there is a vast eighteen acre void at ground zero in lower Manhattan.  Many people are concerned about what may or may not happen to this site.  You may have formed some opinion regarding this issue.  We would like you to take this opportunity to research proposals, investigate alternatives, and decide on outcomes for yourself.

 

 

Topics for discussion:

  1. Land use/ sale of property and give money to victims fund.
  2. Appropriateness of commercial property vs. public memorial.
  3. Who decides how the land should be used?
    1. Victims survivors
    2. General Public
    3. Land owners
    4. U.S./State/NYC government
    5. Other

       4.  What issues need to be considered in a new design?

 

Assignment:

1.     Explore the following websites.

2.     In your groups review the topics for discussion.

A.    Use MSWord to produce a synopsis of your discussion

B.    Poll your group for results of question #3 and report it.

3.  As a group, create a design of your own incorporating all the things you considered in your topics for discussion.  You may the websites you’ve explored as inspiration in your design.
