    Leon Glaeser..Hey You Guys!
    Leon Glaeser..No I'm at home.

sysop.....So far ... its just you and I ... and Garry. Who is
              Garry?
    Leon Glaeser..Beats me.
sysop.....We are supposed to meet here at 4:45 ... starting our project at
              5:00
Leon Glaeser..David was leaving BrM at the same time I was, he has just a
little further to get home than I do.
sysop.....I had an interesting trip to Nashville.
sysop.....Nice place to visit ... sure glad I live in New Orleans.
Leon Glaeser..George, I registered for the fall yesterday. Sorry To say I
didn't up for any of your courses since they're still 4000
              somethings.
sysop.....If you would like, you can help me teach on of those
              classes.
sysop.....You would regester in a 6000 (directed study) ... and attend and
              help teach my class.
Leon Glaeser..I went over to the College of Business and made an appointment
to work on an MBA in Technology Management. I am registered for
ENMG 6140 - Information Networks for Enterprises and MANG 6407 -

              for my MBA.
sysop.....Sounds like you have your hands full!
Leon Glaeser..I could be interested even though I don't need the courses for
either degree. I only have Tuesday open tho'. What are you
              teaching then
    Mary Armit..Hi

    Mary Armit..Hi chip
Deborah Darby..I am now at a different computer from the one I originally
sent the tidbit of info for!
    Deborah Darby..Hi, Chip!
    Chip Farman..Gary is George's wife.
Leon Glaeser..Now you have to get to know another computer.

    Mary Armit..Hi Lisa
Lisa Bonano..ok this screen looks weird. Can you see this message?
    Deborah Darby..Hi
Chip Farman..Leon did you get my email?
Mary Armit..We can see you ,Lisa
Leon Glaeser..Yes I did. Take it away, and if we finish up to quick, I have
              some things planned.
sysop.....Chip and Leon, we want to try to start around 5:00. We are still
missing David and Becky. Everyone should remember that Daedriane
will not be with us tonight.
    sysop.....Who is Garry?
    Mary Armit..Your wife

sysop.....You can make fun of my wife ... and not feel bad about
              it.

              hungry?
Lisa Bonano..i am not seeing any messages
sysop.....Meat pies at Leon's after class ... now all we need is his
              address.
Lisa Bonano..i see my own and that is all. I am clicking the send/refresh
              button
Leon Glaeser..you can find me at 65.186.248.105
sysop.....Lisa is having problems ... Leon, Chip ... what do you
              think?
    Mary Armit..refresh, lisa
Lisa Bonano..i guess i will get out and try again
sysop.....You can't fool me, that's an IP address, we need a street
              address.
Chip Farman..I'll bet she's on an apple!
Lisa Bonano 2..ok i am back. Let's see if this works now.
sysop.....Karen and Deborah can be silent ... and I can't make eyes at them
              to get their attention.
    Leon Glaeser..Drumroll Please
sysop.....Ok course ... everyone is silent right now?
Deborah Darby..You have my attention. I'm just waiting for the discussion to
              begin.
    Chip Farman..They're probably cooking supper.
    Mary Armit..Ready
Lisa Bonano 2..ok, I can see you all now but I have to click refresh
everytime i want to see a new message so I will keep up as fast as
              I can.
    Chip Farman..Aim
    Leon Glaeser..Hi David.
sysop.....David .. hi ... now all we need is Becky!
    David Rex Joyner..hi,leon, hi all
    Chip Farman..welcome David
sysop.....Chip, Leon ... should we wait a little longer?
    Chip Farman..you 'da sysop
Leon Glaeser..Chip? Chip? I was waiting for you to respond.
Mary Armit..I have to refreash too, Lisa, so your not alone
    Mary Armit..On ebay, Chip?
    sysop.....lets vote ... YES : Wain ... NO : start now
    Lisa Bonano 2..thanks Mary
Leon Glaeser..You laidies go freshen up. Always in pairs.
    Lisa Bonano 2..let's start
    Leon Glaeser..I'm GO
    David Rex Joyner..start now
    sysop.....YES : Wait, NO : start now
    Deborah Darby..Whatever the sysop says!
    David Rex Joyner..no
    Leon Glaeser..Make a commitment!
sysop.....Deborah ... not good enouth ... you need to vote (YES, NO)
Chip Farman..Mary, can't you see my responses either?
    Lisa Bonano 2..let's get rolling
    Lisa Bonano 2..yes
sysop.....Becky .. OK ... we have everyone now
    Mary Armit..Sure I can, Chip
Becky Maloney..Sorry I'm late, traffic on the bridge
    Mary Armit..Hi, Beckt
    Becky Maloney..Hey
    Mary Armit..Sorry, Becky
Lisa Bonano 2..becky - catch your breath
    Becky Maloney..What are we doing?
sysop.....Tonight, we want to learn something about our computer. But our
real goal is to discover for ourselves if we can interact, teach,
              and learn, without being face-to-face.
    sysop.....Chip ... Leon ... do you have a plan?
Lisa Bonano 2..i hope you all had a nice Easter
Becky Maloney..Is that Mrs. George on line?
Lisa Bonano 2..ok, i am off the subject - oops
    Leon Glaeser..Chip, Waiting on you.
Garry.....YES ... I'm here to help George answer questions about his
              computers
    Mary Armit..Go Chip
Chip Farman..Follow the format and if we finish early we can do a little
              maintenance.
Becky Maloney..Hello, it's nice to meet you
Chip Farman..Mary speaking of the worksheet, how and the heck do your
printer and scanner have the same model number?
sysop.....Everyone has two goals1. Teach someone something2. Learn something
about your computerSo, ask for help!\
Lisa Bonano 2..Hello Garry. Nice of you to join us.
sysop.....Chip gave us a place to start ... an inventory of our PERSONLAL
              computer.
Mary Armit..You must be looking at somebody else, I don't have a
              scanner
sysop.....From here we should be able to figure out what info we need help
              with?
Leon Glaeser..Who had trouble finding the info?
Becky Maloney..How do you find out about your network card?
Leon Glaeser..Does anyone know the answer to Becky's question?
Chip Farman..Don't make me go back and look. Was it monitor and
              printer?
Leon Glaeser..The best place to start finding about My Computer is
              ......?
Mary Armit..Nope, I don't have anything the same
Garry.....Chip, how much free space do you have on your hard drive ... and
how do you know. Leon, Can you recommend how much free space you
should keep on a hard drive.
Lisa Bonano 2..I don't know the answer about the network card either
Deborah Darby..I have Windows 95. What is the process to upgrade this
operating system if I have the Windows 98 CD?
    Mary Armit..My Computer Icon?
    Leon Glaeser..Bingo!!!
Leon Glaeser..Now What happens when you click on it?
Chip Farman..I can tell you how to identify your network card in case you
need drivers or something like that.
    Becky Maloney..How
Lisa Bonano 2..ok too many different topics at once. Y'all are already
              confusing me.
Leon Glaeser..Is that a right click or a left click?
Karen Team..I lost my connection at 5:10 and I was unable to view the
conversations past the discussion on sysop or whatever.
    Becky Maloney..on whatt???????
Mary Armit..It gives you basic info on your hard drive and free
              space
Leon Glaeser..Try right clicking on My Computer.
Becky Maloney..If I right click on my computer and then go to properties,
              then I can find it???
    Becky Maloney..about the network card??
Karen Team..Please fill me in on what you are talking about.
    Leon Glaeser..Yes, under device manager.
Becky Maloney..I was asking how to find out about my netword card.
David Rex Joyner..macs have an "about this computer" in the control
              panels
Deborah Darby..Perhaps we can use the process George used. As a question is
asked, give time for that question to be answered - unless that
              would take too much time.
Mary Armit..Karen we're talking about Chip's computer form
    Karen Team..Thank you
Leon Glaeser..Mack users are so distant. PC users are more personal, MY
              COMPUTER, Sigh!!!
Lisa Bonano 2..ok, I went to device manager and I don't see the words
network card. So does that mean I don't have one?
    Mary Armit..Good idea Deborah
Leon Glaeser..You may not. If you do, there will be a network adapters
icon, if not you won't have it.
    Lisa Bonano 2..good idea Deborah!!
Becky Maloney..should we all have a network card?
Karen Team..My responses regarding the work sheet are limited tonight and
otherwise because my computer crased. I am unable to access
anything on the ones in my lab and office. If you want to know
why I'm telling you this--it is beca use you made the
              assignments.
    David Rex Joyner..thanks
Mary Armit..What is a network card for? Should I have one?
    Karen Team..That's crashed
Leon Glaeser..Not necessarily, if all you have is dial up internet access,
you don't need one. If you have DSL, Cable or a Local area
              network then you need one.
Becky Maloney..I finally got my computer to defragment. It took two whole
days. What exactly does that mean?
    Mary Armit..OK, I'm dial-up
Leon Glaeser..A network card allows computers to communicate with each other
              via Cat5 Wiring.
Mary Armit..Is that when you squoosh up all of your space to make
              room?
Lisa Bonano 2..I have dial up Internet access so I guess that is why i don't
              have a network card.
Leon Glaeser..Most computers now come with NIC's older ones have add on
              cards. I added mine on.
Leon Glaeser..I had to crack my case in order to find the speed of the
              CD-RW. What a pain!
Lisa Bonano 2..is a Ethernet card also a network card?
    Leon Glaeser..Yes
Mary Armit..Why would you need to know that, Leon?
Lisa Bonano 2..I don't think that was a good idea???? Cracking your
              case.
    Leon Glaeser..Chip asked the question.
Leon Glaeser..That's computer lingo for opening the case up.
Mary Armit..Well, as long as you have a good reason!!
Becky Maloney..I think my says it on the front. Is that 12X/8X/32X?
Mary Armit..So Chip, what's the importance of knowing how fast your CD-RW
              is?
Chip Farman..look at the door of the cd and if it says 40 x you've got
              it
    Leon Glaeser..That's it Becky.
    Lisa Bonano 2..I don't even have a CD-RW :-(
Becky Maloney..What do those numbers mean?
Mary Armit..I don't have a number on my cd door, Chip
Leon Glaeser..Me either, that's why I cracked the case.
    Karen Team..Mine is blank, too.
Chip Farman..I've got some at school with quad speed, these are junk when
              compared to 40 or more
    Becky Maloney..What's quad speed?
Mary Armit..Whats the importance in speed for this
Chip Farman..you didn't see a speed on my worksheet I emailed to the
              list.
Leon Glaeser..The speed all depends on what you use the drive for. If you
install all of your programs, the 4X is fine. If you're running
newer programs from the CD, then it is a problem.
Chip Farman..I was hoping someone could tell me a way to determine without
              "cracking"
    David Rex Joyner..lol
    Chip Farman..quad = 4 X
Lisa Bonano 2..sorry Chip, I can't help you
Becky Maloney..I only "cracked" when I was installing something. Will it
hurt your computer if you "crack" it too much?
Leon Glaeser..Excuse me David, I didn;t get that.
    David Rex Joyner..mac joke
Chip Farman..wait David it will get even better, right Garry
Deborah Darby..(repeat question) I have Windows 95. I have the CD for
Windows 98. What is the actual process to perform the actual
              up-grade?
sysop.....Chip, sometimes the software you use to write CDs will tell you
the speed of your CD-RW drive?
Leon Glaeser..I don't even put the screws back in, half of the time I just
leave the case open, except when company's coming.
Lisa Bonano 2..I am trying to scroll back up to previous messages and I
              cannot get them. Any ideas?
Becky Maloney..Deborah, I think you can put the CD in and go to run and run
              the .exe set up
    Deborah Darby..Thanks, Becky
Becky Maloney..I have upgraded my office, and had no problems
Mary Armit..Can't do it, Lisa, give up
Lisa Bonano 2..DAvid - lol "lots of laugh" ?????????
    David Rex Joyner..laugh out loud
Karen Team..Does this discussion at any par ticular time?
    Karen Team..end?
Leon Glaeser..Do you actually have an upgrade CD, or is it a full version?
You can't upgrade if it is a full version.
    Lisa Bonano 2..ok Mary
Karen Team..Do we go past 5:30 (perhaps stated differently the second
              time)?
Leon Glaeser..Any other questions about the hardware? Chip mentioned
Drivers earlier, what are drivers anyway?
Deborah Darby..It is the full version. So, is there a way to install it,
              Leon?
Garry.....Deborah ... before upgrading Windows 95 I would make sure that you
have enough RAM to run Windows 98. Leon, How much RAM would your
              recommend to Deborah?
Becky Maloney..I think George is the only one to answer that. Karen
Mary Armit..Did anyone ever answer the question of how much free space you
              should keep on your computer?
    Karen Team..Is George present?
Chip Farman..Deborah I told you before you need a Windows 98 upgrade disc -
              not the full version
    Chip Farman..at least 32
Deborah Darby..Thanks, Garry. By the way, nice to meet you, Garry.
Lisa Bonano 2..Ok, I suddenly feel like I know nothing about my
              computer.
Leon Glaeser..I have a machine with 16 Meg running poorly. 32 Meg runs
fine, even tho Office 2K is a little taxing at that level.
sysop.....George is here and we will continue for some time. Class doesn't
end until 7:15 ... and we starded late today!
Mary Armit..I have 1.65 GB of free space. Is that good?
Deborah Darby..Well, Chip, can I help it if I'm a "challenged"
              learner?!!!!!!!!
Karen Team..I didn't know that you we re sysop
sysop.....1.65 GB free ... how big is your drive. I would say that a good
rule of thumb is to keep 10% to 20% of your drive spacee free at
              all times.
Becky Maloney..How big a hard drive should we have?
Mary Armit..My drive has a total space of 4.00 GB
sysop.....If you follow this rule, you will not have file fragmentation
              problems
Lisa Bonano 2..how do I find out how big my hard drive is?
Chip Farman..Office 2000 takes apx 600 or one third of what you have
              available on your hard drive.
Leon Glaeser..To finish the upgrade question, there are several hidden
system files on the root directory that will have to be deleted
using DOS before you can install win 98 over win 95. Attributes
need to be changed, etc. It's not for the faint of heart. but it
              can be done.
Chip Farman..Can we address Lisa's question?
Karen Team..What options are available in your plan to include the student
whose technology did not allow these specs to be gathered?
Mary Armit..Lisa, go to your my computer icon and click on it.
Deborah Darby..Well, so much for that! Thanks, Leon.
Chip Farman..It's one we might actually be able to get through.
Mary Armit..The size of your c-drive and free space should be right
              there
Lisa Bonano 2..ok, I click on "my computer"
Becky Maloney..Can't deborah delete what she has and then install?
Karen Team..I must step away to fix the cartridge in my lab. Students are
here and I am the only person working.
Lisa Bonano 2..what should I be looking for now?
Chip Farman..Roll with it Mary, keep going.
    Mary Armit..Deleting is scary!!!
David Rex Joyner..i find deleting liberating
Lisa Bonano 2..Mary .... help me. Now what?
Becky Maloney..I go to my computer, than right click on C; fo to properties
then it tells me how much is there and how much is left
Mary Armit..When you pull up your my computer icon, basic info like space
should be right there to the right
    Mary Armit..Good way also, Becky
Leon Glaeser..A delete of the Windows directory , and even all the files in
the root directory won't catch these. The attributes have to be
changed so thy are no longer hidden and no longer flagged as
system files, then they can be deleted. All this has to be done
              from a DOS prompt.
    Lisa Bonano 2..what is "c"?
    Becky Maloney..My hard drive
Becky Maloney..Yours may have a different letter
Lisa Bonano 2..It says I have 64.0 MB - is this my hard drive?
Becky Maloney..Why do hard drives have different letters?
    Becky Maloney..That is your RAM
    Becky Maloney..isn't it?
Chip Farman..Not to get off the question at hand Leon, but wouldn't it be
better to reformat the hard drive then do the full install of
              windows 98?
Deborah Darby..Leon, would it be too tedious for you to provide a "cheat
sheet" to perform this task? Thanks, Becky, for an added
              insight.
    Mary Armit..Yes
    Chip Farman..64 is RAM
Leon Glaeser..To tell one from the other's. You can take a folder on your
computer and start calling it a drive if you want. They don't
have to be actual physical drives.
Becky Maloney..Your hard drive should be 6 GB or something like that
Mary Armit..It'll say total size and then free space, Lisa
Leon Glaeser..YEs, that'what I do. It means saving your data and
re-installing your software, but chances are your programs would
be trash anyway and have to be re-installed.
Becky Maloney..What does FAT 32 mean? Does anyone else's hard drive say
              that?
    Leon Glaeser..Great Question!!!!
Lisa Bonano 2..I don't have that Mary when I click on my computer
    Deborah Darby..To avoid a possible disaster, I'll just get a Windows 98
upgrade CD. Thanks, Leon, Chip, and Becky.
    Mary Armit..Sounds personal to me
Becky Maloney..are you right clicking lisa?
    Becky Maloney..Sorry Ded
    Becky Maloney..Deb
    Lisa Bonano 2..Yes Becky
Becky Maloney..and then going to properties?
Leon Glaeser..Fat 32 means that your hard drive is divided up into 2 to the
32 power little pieces. That is the smallest size cubbie whole
you can use. If that winds up being 56K, even if you have a 1 K
file, it has to use up that much space.
Mary Armit..I don't think I right clicked on the icon, I think I left
              clicked, Lisa
    Becky Maloney..Thanks, Leon
Chip Farman..are you diggin' the chaos George?
Leon Glaeser..Originally DOS used FAT 16. With FAT 32 enabled you can make
much better use of a large (4 Meg or higher) hard drive.
Mary Armit..Is that a good thing, Leon?
Lisa Bonano 2..Mary, left clicking doesn't do anything for me.
Leon Glaeser..FAT 32 is a very good thing.
Becky Maloney..Lisa, start over. Click on My computer. Then right click on
your hard drive's icon and go to properties.
Mary Armit..What's the FAT stand for?
Leon Glaeser..I'm running WIN ME here, which has FAT 32 by default.
Becky Maloney..I am on WIN 98
    Mary Armit..Me too Becky
Becky Maloney..Should we upgrade to ME?
Lisa Bonano 2..ok, Becky I will try
    Becky Maloney..or XP?
Leon Glaeser..If you are on Win 98, Fat 32 is an option. If you don't have
it installed, it's a one time deal. You'll find the program by
              Run, Programs, Accessories, Systm Tools.
    Mary Armit..I'm not upgrading anymore
    Becky Maloney..Why not?
Leon Glaeser..NO!!! Don't upgrade to ME. It's the Worst OS Microsoft ever
              wrote. Go to XP.
    Becky Maloney..Is XP really better?
Lisa Bonano 2..Ok, thanks Becky I got it.
    Becky Maloney..Great Lisa
    Lisa Bonano 2..Thanks Chip!!!
Leon Glaeser..You can't enable Fat 32 if your hard drive is over 50%
              utilized.
Leon Glaeser..XP is the most stable OS Microsoft has. Yes, I plan to
              upgrade to XP.
Chip Farman..Good move Mary, with a 4GB hard drive your processor is
probably outdated too. Good decision to replace instead of
              upgrade.
Becky Maloney..do you have to do any of that fancy stuff to upgrade?
sysop.....Leon, what would you say are the minimum system requirements to
              consider upgrading to XP?
Leon Glaeser..FAT - File Access Table, where the OS keeps track of where
              things are stored.
Mary Armit..And you know, it's only 3 years old, Chip!
Leon Glaeser..400 Mhz processor, 128 Meg RAM
Becky Maloney..What are the advantages to having XP?
Lisa Bonano 2..I have heard ME is bad also.
Becky Maloney..128 MB????????? Yikes, I have 32 MB
Leon Glaeser..No more blue screen of death!!!!!
sysop.....3 years is a computer lifetime!
Chip Farman..Fat 32 is a non issue tonight. ME and XP are not supported by
the Jefferson Parish Technology Department - take that as
              advice.
Leon Glaeser..I still love Win 98 SE
Becky Maloney..what do you mean not supported?
Lisa Bonano 2..Leon that is what I have also. I love it too.
Mary Armit..I have a cyrixMII-366 processor running with 250 MHZ processor
              speed. Is that outdated Chip?
David Rex Joyner..i love my mac
    Becky Maloney..Boo to macs
Karen Team..Not supported means that if it breaks, there's no technical
              support. ks
Leon Glaeser..Why do you have it throttled down. Pump that baby up. Cyo
might even over clock it. MORE POWER, argh, Argh ,
              Argh!!!
Chip Farman..Mary, save your RAM chips to put in your new computer, write
              off the rest.
Becky Maloney..David, did you have problems finding the info on the sheet on
              a mac?
    Becky Maloney..or is it easier?
    David Rex Joyner..easier
Becky Maloney..sorry, still love my pc
    Mary Armit..me too, becky
David Rex Joyner..its all in one place specs serial #0023's peripherals
              everything
Becky Maloney..are you guys seeing a ground swell of support for macs in
              today's kids?
    Becky Maloney..because of the graphics?
David Rex Joyner..they are standard in the graphics industry
Mary Armit..Only cause their cute, Becky
Becky Maloney..what is it about macs that makes them better for
              graphics?
Leon Glaeser..Yeah, David, What is it?
    Chip Farman..trendy colors
Mary Armit..Our commercial art teacher is the only one I know that uses
              Macs
David Rex Joyner..ease of use, fewer crashes less convoluted
Becky Maloney..my daughter is a graphic design major and she uses only
              macs
    Leon Glaeser..URBAN LEGEND!
sysop.....My hope ... is that someday ... we will stop talking about what
kind of computer we use .. and focus on what we use it for.
Every computer is created equal -- usually this means its just NOT
              GOOD enough
Karen Team..I want to use Macs for video
    Chip Farman..takes less desktop space
Becky Maloney..you sound like the "I have a dream" speech, George
    Deborah Darby..PC PC PC
Becky Maloney..speaking of the less desk space, should we all go to flat
              screens?
Mary Armit..Was that a parady Becky, remember copyright rules!
Chip Farman..so, back to something (knowledge) you can take from the chat
              tonight
Leon Glaeser..Green, Green, as green they say, on the far side of the
              hill.
Becky Maloney..It was a parody, don't call the copyright police on
              me!!
Becky Maloney..What about flat screens, does any one have one?
Lisa Bonano 2..Becky your ? about Macs. That is what my school has, but my
parents want us to get PC's.
    Deborah Darby..Becky, Becky...
sysop.....Not flat screens ... LCD screens. CRTs can have flat
              screens.
    Becky Maloney..what is a crt?
Mary Armit..Can't afford a flat screen
Lisa Bonano 2..Becky, they want their kids to be able to type something at
school and then fisnih it at home or v/v
    Karen Team..cathode ray tube?
Leon Glaeser..Cathode Ray Tube, TV for short.
Becky Maloney..I understand Lisa, I feel the same way
Chip Farman..very minimum RAM is what Leon is running 32, I suggest at least
              64
Becky Maloney..Deborah, don't pick on me!
David Rex Joyner..seriously I like macs because it is what I learned on and
what I'm used to' at SIGRAPH convention the computers were
overwhelmingly MACS , however, PC's will run all the
              software
Becky Maloney..ok, should we get LCD flat screens
    sysop.....LCDs -- YYYEEESSS
Becky Maloney..I envision working on computers with the flat LCD screens
              mounted on the wall
Leon Glaeser..They use less energy, produce less heat,
    Mary Armit..Why
Becky Maloney..Then we would really have more desk space
Chip Farman..if you are buying today, minimum of 256
sysop.....reduced eye strain ... no magnetic fields
Karen Team..I'm glad to see that there is some good reason to purchase these
and not just for aesthetic reasons.
Becky Maloney..I heard that you can get an LCD flat screen for about $350,
              is that true?
Leon Glaeser..They're very PC, not really PC esque.
Chip Farman..does anyone have more? sysop?
David Rex Joyner..whats wrong with aesthetics
Becky Maloney..should we wait for them to come down in price? What is a
good price for a flat screen LCD monitor?
Chip Farman..just like women. worried about how it looks and not what makes
              it work!
    sysop.....A 15" LCD is equal to a 17" CRT
Karen Team..I forgot the spokesman for the recognition of beauty was pwas
              present.
    sysop.....A 17: LCD is equal to a 19" CRT
    Becky Maloney..really, I didn't know that
Leon Glaeser..$350 is a good price for a 16". I hear that the screans may
actually go up in price over the next 6-9 months.
Lisa Bonano 2..i hate all this computer lingo
Mary Armit..How much $ are we talking
Becky Maloney..Then there are a lot of advantages to having one, except for
              the price
    Leon Glaeser..What Lingo?
    Becky Maloney..CRT, LCD
    Becky Maloney..ABC
    Leon Glaeser..easy a 123
    sysop.....Are we getting tired?
    Becky Maloney..delirious
    Leon Glaeser..I'm having trougle focusing.
Becky Maloney..why is this so tiring?
Lisa Bonano 2..trying to remember what LCD, CRT and things like that
              mean
Leon Glaeser..Should we take a 10 min break?
David Rex Joyner..its PC's they are exhausting I could keep going
    Becky Maloney..lol
sysop.....Don't forget ... to complete this assignment ... you will need to
post a message to our discussion board WebX'ing summarizing your
              reactions to this chat.
    Mary Armit..You got more, Leon?
Deborah Darby..I'm on a pc, and I am fine.
Lisa Bonano 2..I feel like we need to learn everything we said tonight, but
too much at one time. Well, for me at least.
    Becky Maloney..good for you deborah
    Lisa Bonano 2..David - lol :-)
Leon Glaeser..That depends upon George, and popular consensus. We could go
              on, and on, andon ....
Chip Farman..Lisa, all that is nothing but a distraction to our
              chat.
sysop.....Please ... do your attendance ... there are some interesting
pictures there. Also ... anyone answering "What is it" correctly
              ... get an "A"
sysop.....How did Chip and Leon do tonight?
Karen Team..To what degree of correctness?
David Rex Joyner..I've learned alot...FAT, where to find info on PC's I use
              them this has been good
    sysop.....Exactlly correct ...
Lisa Bonano 2..Ok, what do you mean "what it is" for the picture?
    Mary Armit..They did good!
sysop.....OK ... everyone ... list something you learned tonight. Leon --
              do you learn something?
sysop.....NO one will guess what the picture is!
Becky Maloney..I learned about the benefits of LCD screens
Lisa Bonano 2..list something now George or for the other part of the
              assignment?
    sysop.....Good becky
Karen Team..I learned that flat-screens are not just another ploy to get me
              to spend more money.
Mary Armit..I learned how much free space to keep on my computer, and that
              I'm outdated
    sysop.....good mary
    sysop.....good karen
Lisa Bonano 2..I finally learned how to find of how big my hard drive is,
how much space I have used and how much free I have left.
Mary Armit..I also learned how to find all of this stuff, if you look at my
              worksheet, it's almost blank!
    sysop.....Good lisa!
    sysop.....Good mary!
Becky Maloney..Okay, are we done? We have to do attendance, journal and
post to web crossing about the chat?
David Rex Joyner..I learned on macs and PC's
Leon Glaeser..Yes, I learned that there is a lot that people can learn about
              computers in 75 minutes.
Mary Armit..I'm going to update my worksheet
    sysop.....Thanks to everyone ...
David Rex Joyner..thanks Leon and Chip for moderating
Chip Farman 2..Okay George, can you check the attendance responses from
              where you are?
    Becky Maloney..thanks Leon and Chip
    Becky Maloney..Thanks George
Mary Armit..By the way, Chip, that was a great worksheet!
    Becky Maloney..Nice meeting you Garry
Becky Maloney..Will you come to our last supper?
sysop.....Don't forget ... we meet next week at the Contempary Arts Center
              ... downtown ... at 4:30 sharp!
    Karen Team..Hell Hello Garry,
    Becky Maloney..Yikes, I need a map!
    Karen Team..Your flowers are beautiful
sysop.....I will provide a map soon! Right David?
Deborah Darby..George, I was writing my response and suddenly your message
had replaced my message in MY message box. I guess that's
technology. Anyway, I learned a lot from just reading the
questions and resposes tonight. I learned the definition of FAT. I
also learned that I need to get an upgrade CD for Windows
              98.
David Rex Joyner..sharp, it shouyld take a good hour to see the show
    Mary Armit..Will we get directions?
Deborah Darby..Leon and Chip did well. Thanks, guys!
Lisa Bonano 2..Ok, I need a map for the arts center
sysop.....We will get directions ... I will eMail redCap with
              information.
Becky Maloney..will htere be pictures of naked men?
David Rex Joyner..for your sake I hope so
    Deborah Darby..Becky, Becky.
Becky Maloney..not for I, I was asking for Deborah
    Chip Farman 2..you wish!
    Deborah Darby..Shame on you, Becky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
    sysop.....Are these CHATS getting easier?
Deborah Darby..It's time for you to take an aspirin, Becky. You have a
              headache
Mary Armit..You know you want them, Deb!!!
    David Rex Joyner..yes easier
Becky Maloney..I think the ease is in the design
Becky Maloney..how the chat is structured makes all the difference in the
              world
Lisa Bonano 2..yes, the chats are easier. I just wish I didn't have to
              always click refresh
    Mary Armit..riding tomnight? well OK!
sysop.....It seems to me that we had 3 or 4 conversations going ... and it
              worked?
Becky Maloney..why do you have to do that lisa?
David Rex Joyner..ladies, nudity is our natural state, well for most of
              us
Deborah Darby..George, I think the chats will do well as long as concrete
parameters are set for asking and answering questions.
Lisa Bonano 2..I don't know Becky. That is the only way I can see what
              y'all type.
Leon Glaeser..As long as the conversations didn't trample on each other it
              worked.
Becky Maloney..some natural states are more attractive than others
Chip Farman 2..easier - yes, more informative - no
Karen Team..Actually, this browser does a better job of making the
              information user-friendly.
Mary Armit..I kept up pretty good, George
Becky Maloney..I agree Chip, we have to work on this
David Rex Joyner..I was able to follow most of the conversations
sysop.....This chat software works either with JAVA or text. If you don't
have a Java enable browser ... than it uses text. Text requires
              that you reload (refresh)
Karen Team..Better in Netscape than AOL
Becky Maloney..How do we impart more knowledge using this media
Leon Glaeser..Chip, you underestimate what was accomplished here. We had
people boldly going where they had never gone before. All in the
              comfort of their easy chairs.
    David Rex Joyner..i prefer netscape
Becky Maloney..On blackboard there is a screen on top that you can pull up
web sites and everyone can see the site
Lisa Bonano 2..Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me George.
Deborah Darby..I think this exercise was a wonderful idea, Chip. There is
always something to be learned, whatever the circumstance.
Becky Maloney..Garry, what did you think?
    Garry.....I loved it!!!
Becky Maloney..have you done this before?
Lisa Bonano 2..Garry, I am sure you got a few good laughs from us.
Chip Farman 2..I feel better now
David Rex Joyner..you done good chip
Becky Maloney..Chip Yall did a great job
Garry.....Thanks for letting me lerk ... look in on your class
Becky Maloney..Feel free to come in any time
Deborah Darby..Glad you could join us, Garry.
sysop.....Chip ... were you nervious about this class?
    sysop.....Remember ... meat pies at Leon's ... lets go!!!
Deborah Darby..Yes, Chip was nervous because he told me, "Deborah, I TOLD
              you ......!"
    Becky Maloney..Meat pies???
    David Rex Joyner..???
Deborah Darby..It seems as though Chip has taken flight!
Becky Maloney..where are we going to eat at our last supper?
    Deborah Darby..Are we dismissed?
Lisa Bonano 2..ok, where do we write our reactions? On web
              crossing?
    Mary Armit..E-bay!
Chip Farman 2..nervous - never, I really wanted to show people how to find
info and maybe even learn some short cuts for myself
    Becky Maloney..Good luck mary
sysop.....Becky ... you are in charge of selecting an establishment for
              us!
Mary Armit..I didn't mean that for you, Lisa!
Becky Maloney..As long as alcohol is served
Becky Maloney..I am game for any where
David Rex Joyner..Daqueri Cafe by school has good sanwhiches and
              drinks
    Becky Maloney..true
Mary Armit..I meant that's probably where Chip went. I'm on e-bay
              probation. 12 step program
    Karen Team..I agreee with Becky
Lisa Bonano 2..Yes - Becky about the alcohol
    Deborah Darby.....taking a short walk!
David Rex Joyner..Liuza's on bienville has great food and large cold
              beers
    sysop.....I've joined eBay Annonymous
Mary Armit..Are we staying in the UNO area?
Lisa Bonano 2..I have never eaten at Luiza's, but heard it was good.
    Karen Team..Sound' great! David!
    sysop.....Liuza's is interesting ...
Becky Maloney..never been there, but like the sound of the beer
    Karen Team..sound's
David Rex Joyner..they serve it in a big frosty fish bowl
    Becky Maloney..yum
Becky Maloney..ok, can we leave now?
    sysop.....Class ended about 20 minutes ago ...
Chip Farman 2..I've never been, but if we go I can say I've been
              there
    Karen Team..I didn't know that.
Lisa Bonano 2..Ok, we need to do attendance, journal and reactions
              right?
Becky Maloney..ok, gotta go cook something, see you guys at the CAC next
              week
Leon Glaeser..I used to go there when I was 8 with my dad after KC softball
games. went there a couple of years ago. Same Paint on the
walls, same pictures, probabally same dirt on the floor. GREAT
              PLACE.
    Deborah Darby..Au revoir, mes amis!!!!!!!!!!!
sysop.....attendance -- journal -- see you next week
David Rex Joyner..G i knew that when conversation shifted from FAT 32 to
              getting fat at liuzza's
    Karen Team..Good-bye
    Becky Maloney..lol
Mary Armit..Is there shrimp on the menu?
    Lisa Bonano 2..good one David
Chip Farman 2..Port of Call could be an option too
Chip Farman 2..Port of Call could be an option too
    Mary Armit..Good one, Chip
Lisa Bonano 2..Night to all :=)
David Rex Joyner..shrim and more, italian and new orleans
              specialties

    David Rex Joyner..P of C : can't go wrong
Lisa Bonano 2..ok, I am really going. Night!

    Leon Glaeser..Bye all!
    Mary Armit..Nite

Chip Farman 2..Ever try a Huma Huma?
Chip Farman 2..Okay Mary and Lisa, see you at ebay!
    Chip Farman 2..gn
