Assignment 1: Software Evaluation

Purpose of this assignment
  1. Help you begin to think about "Educational Software"
  2. Help you fund educational software
  3. Help you understand how to acquire educational software: commercial, eval, almost free, free
  4. To complete a formal evaluation of one software product
  5. Work with a partner
  6. Plan and build a presentation (to our class)

Grading rubric
  • 10% - Send eMail to George with description of the software and why you chose it
  • 40% - Complete Software Evaluation Rubric
  • 50% - In class PowerPoint (or something similar) presentation, not to exceed 5 minutes.

  • Due Dates
  • eMail to George : at least 1 hour before class. Thursday, January 27
  • Software Evaluation Rubric : beginning of class, Tuesday, February 1
  • In class presentation - Tuesday, February 1

  • Your presentation and its audience
    For the purposes of your presentation, you should consider that you are a member of the faculty at a PreK-12 school. Your school is considering how to invest its budget for computer software for this school year. Each of you were assigned one software product to evaluate. NOW, you have 4 to 5 minutes to communicate with your faculty. Explain the educational value of the product. Let them know if your software product should be considered for purchase or NOT. Why or why not. Use of PowerPoint (or equal) is optional in your presentation.
