50 Years of Progress

Today's pen based "palm top" computers are many orders of magnitude faster/smaller and easier to use then any of their predecessors. They exhibit many of the most important network and publishing attributes needed in the Information Age. These include video, telephone, fax, e-mail, web browsing, remote database access. They use both wire and wireless network archectures. These are the first computers not called computers--this fact may be their most import legacy.

Apple's Newton, (shown full size) is based on a Digital's 150 MHz StrongArm processor that sells for less than $25.00, and is more powerful then many desktop and laptop computers.
