ORACLE MEDIA OBJECTS DELIVERS NEW MODEL FOR APPLICATION CREATION AND DISTRIBUTION, INCREASED DATA ACCESS

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oracle (Universal Server) Integration Enables New Class of Multimedia Applications

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 26, 1996-Oracle Corp. today announced the availability of Oracle Media Objects for Windows, a multimedia application development environment targeted at the next generation of online applications. Oracle Media Objects enables Windows developers to combine video, audio, text, images and animation into compelling, interactive consumer and business applications. Oracle Media Objects is the first authoring tool that allows developers to create multimedia applications for deployment on the World Wide Web and other networked platforms including corporate local area networks, Oracle Network Computer(TM), integrated services digital networks (ISDN), retail kiosks and interactive television or standalone CD-ROMs.

It was announced here today at Oracle's Developer Conference.

"Distributed applications for the Internet, corporate and broadband networks are the next wave of multimedia development," said Sohaib Abbasi, senior vice president of Oracle's Tools Products Division. "Oracle Media Objects is the only tool which has the combination of features -- object-orientation and integrated multimedia data access -- to allow development of applications which support a variety of servers and clients -- including databases, Oracle and DEC video servers, PCs, Macintoshes, World Wide Web users, interactive television and the upcoming Network Computer."

Distributed Applications Over a Variety of Networks

Oracle Media Objects enables a new class of distributed applications that can be created, delivered and dynamically updated across any network -- local area network, corporate Intranet or the Internet. This new delivery paradigm enables up-to-the-minute distribution of applications and content providing a richer interactive experience for end users.

Oracle Media Objects also supports dynamic links to the industry-leading Oracle® Universal Server® introduced today (see accompanying release), further enhancing its viability for online transactional and multimedia applications. By combining line-of-business data such as inventory, pricing and customer data with graphics and video, organizations can captivate customers with new shopping experiences through electronic commerce applications and retail kiosks.

Oracle Media Objects for Windows

With the addition of Oracle Media Objects for Windows, Oracle has extended its multimedia authoring tool offering. Oracle Media Objects provides a rich authoring environment for multimedia developers on both Macintosh and Windows platforms.

Cambridge Digital Media, a Cambridge, Mass.-based interactive multimedia producer, has developed several standalone and Internet applications including "Drivin' Route 66 - America's Main Street" and "American History Interactive: Sights and Sounds of the 1930's." Cambridge Digital Media has also partnered with Oracle to provide Oracle Media Objects training to developers across the United States and Canada.

"Oracle Media Objects is the best tool on the market for the production of rich, dynamic multimedia applications," said Normand G. Desmarais, chief executive officer of Cambridge Digital Media. "No other tool so easily integrates a full range of media -- audio, video and text -- into applications for delivery over any network."

Free Trial Version Available on Web

A free trial version of Oracle Media Objects for Windows is available immediately on the World Wide Web.
