American Rhetoric -- Tutorial 4, Case Problem 1

This is a graded assignment.

Case Problem 1 from Tutorial 4 is presented in our TextBook beginning on page HTML 307 (near Figure 4-78). Additional information, including the Grading Rubric, is found on the Assignment WebPage. Make certain you understand the Gading Rubric. Its requirements are not the same as the TextBook discussion of this Case Problem.

Objective:

This assignment requires you, for the first time in our class, to write a .css Style Sheet from beginning to end. The content of the WebPage is provided for you in a file named lincolntxt.htm, which you should rename to be lincoln.html. You are provided with a file named historytxt.css, but it is empty. All the needed image files are also provided, but if you wish, you are welcome to use other or additional images. The textbook provides 18 steps for you to follow. You can choose to closely follow the text, or be creative, so long as you accomplish the items in the Grading Rubric.

Needed Data Files:

Data Files are located in the tutorial.04/case1 folder.

As is always the case, file named "modernizr-1.5.js" we will not need. You will continue to use (link to) a version of "modernizr.js" on George's WebSite. Using this file is important, this is why all of us will link to the same version of modernizr.

What to do:

First, remember that a Grading Rubric Item is to complete the Tutorial's example WebSite, Cycle Pathology. Do this before beginning on the Case Problem Assignment.

You start without a concreet idea of what your American Rhetoric WebPage should look like. So, you are in charge of design. You are responsible for finding and linking to WebSites external to yours that add value to your site. Not counting these external sites, your site is required to be at least 2 pages. Page one of your site is the Lincoln speech page. Page two of your site is your WebSite Elements page, remember to link these pages so they are easy to navigate. Another page could be a Splash page. Many WebSites use a "Splash" page ... you see them all the time.

Start early. Work hard. Complete all of the 18 steps from the textbook page HTML 307 (near Figure 4-78). Remember, the Grading Rubric has 18 items for you to satisfy. Use our HTML Template because it includes the correct reference to the character set we will use, "utf-8". And, it includes the link to the version of modernizr.js we are using.

Use a folder on your computer to keep all pages for this WebSite organized. Make a new folder on CPST WebServer, name it "Week_07". Use it to keep your WebSites organized.

Save often. Upload your WebPage to CPST WebServer often. Browse to your WebPage often to see your progress. Use W3C MarkUp Validation Service and W3C CSS Validation Service often to guarantee you are writing syntax-error-free HTML and CSS.

Turn your WebSite in to be graded.

Turn in your WebSite by eMail'ing the URL of your class Home Page, include in your eMail text saying "Please grade my Week 7 WebSite, American Rhetoric".

It is obvious that you included a link to your Rhetoric WebSite on your class Home Page. By the end of our Semester, your Home Page will have links to ALL assignment WebSites. Make certain your links work correctly. Make certain you have linked to the WebSite you want graded.

Turn in before midnight Friday

If you turn in before midnight Friday, I will give you feedback you can use to make improvements. You can turn in assignments as often as you like. I will never grade assignments until after due date is past. Even if you are not complete, you benefit by turning in assignments early.
