Requirements for Self Evaluation
EDCI 4993-601, Fall 2000

Everyone is expected to eMail their self evaluations to our list, redCap. You are welcome to turn-in your self evaluaton anytime after our November 29 class meeting. I will respond with private eMail to you confirming your final grade in our class. The absolute last day for turning in your self evaluation is December 5.

Final grade will be based in large on student's self-evaluation. Check the class syllabus for the due date of your self-evaluation.

Part 1, Class Assessment:

When answering these questions, keep in mind that I am asking for your opinion, there are no wrong answers. Explain your answers. Be concrete.

This requires responses to questions, all of which are intended to encourage you to reflect on your accomplishments in this class. Please compose a 3-page maximum response that addresses questions 4 and 5 and 2 of the other questions.

  1. What are the two or three most important things that you learned in this course?
  2. Based on your experience in this class, explain why "Multimedia" is (or is not) important in an educational setting.
  3. Where did the "real learning" take place in this class?
  4. What expectations for this class went unmet?
  5. What did you learn from chatting, Discussion Boards, journaling, and reading redCap's eMail -- that you couldn't have learned any other way?
  6. What are the two or three things you want to work on in your professional setting as a result of this class?
  7. Name one or more things that I (George) did that contributed to your understanding of "Multimedia in the Curricula?"
When answering the above questions, keep in mind that I am asking for your opinion, there are no wrong answers. Explain your answers. Be concrete.

Part 2, Class Participation and Evaluation:

Please provide a 2-page maximum analysis and evaluation of your participation in class. Consider some of the following: Do you believe you contributed meaningfully to general class discussions? In what ways? How do you evaluate your participation in group projects and discussions? How would you evaluate your skills learned in this class? Were you able to help others in class with skills you learned or had already mastered? Comment on your experience during our virtual class meeting(s). Comment on our use of Discussion Boards and chat rooms. Comment on daily journaling. What did you learn from chatting, Discussion Boards, journaling, and reading eMail to iceCap (our list) that you couldn't have learned any other way?

How many unexcused absences did you have this semester? Your third unexcused absence automatically result in a grade of (D) You are responsible for bringing to the attention of your instructor any extenuating circumstances.

Part 3, Final Self-Evaluation:

This final part provides you with an opportunity to evaluate your overall class performance. On 1-page maximum, please give yourself a grade [using the point values] for each area of evaluation listed below (and as shown in the syllabus).

Provide a brief rationale to justify your final grade -- indicate whether you think that your grade reflects what you learned in class. Justify you answer.

  • Two Book Reviews. This is the ONLY assessment (grade) given to you by the instructor. (Note from George: everyone's book reviews were excellent, assume that you earned the full 20 points.)
  • Mid-semester exam -- Unit Lesson Plan, topic of your choice. (Note from George: everyone earned the full 20 points.)
  • Final Exam -- Unit Lesson Plan -- group project.
  • Participation -- attendance and contributions to in-class activities. This includes iceCap -- written assignments posted to our list server, discussion board, field trips, and virtual class meetings.
  • Timely completion of assignments. You cannot receive an "A" in this class unless assignments are completed on or before due dates and times. Everyone's learning depends on your completing assignments. This includes our (almost weekly) written assignments that will be eMailed to iceCap or posted on our Discussion Board.

  • Part 4, your final grade:
