House Keeping
  • Not everyone is remembering to send me their attendance eMail!
  • Check assignment for next week.
  • I won't always mention Links to Explore, but there will almost always be something new each week.
  • Before leaving class tonight, make sure you understand the assignment for next class.
  • Be sure you know how to maintain your class web page ... it is part of your assignment for next week.
  • In class this week:
    1. This week's class and the assignments for next week meet in whole or part objectives #s 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17, 20, 21, 23, 27.
    2. This part of our syllabus is likely to change right up till class time, you should check this carefully.
    3. If you have first drafts of your rubrics, review them with me before you leave tonight.

Reflecting on your readings during this last week
    1. How important is collaboration? As we have discussed technology in education in class, how do you feel -- is collaboration more or less useful, more or less important?
    2. Explain Student-Centered. How is this different than classroom activities of just a few years ago?
    3. List some education technologies you know.
    4. Who can put Unbounded in context.
    5. Tell me -- what is the importance of Shared Knowledge?
    6. Authenticity may very well be a major justification for professional education. Why? Is this a bigger, smaller, same-sized problem today?
    7. Tell me about Chapter 1, 2, 3, etc.
    8. What about fair use policies?
    9. What about access?
    10. Name a ubiquitous education technology.
    11. How do teachers teach?
    Every week
    1. Bring a floppy disk to class ... one that you use on your own computer at home, school, work ... from the computer you plan to use to do your class assignments.
    2. Before leaving class tonight, make sure you understand the assignment for next class.
    3. Send me attendance eMail.

    Assignments
    1. Keep in mind that when you complete the below assignments everyone in class will benefit from your work. This is one great benefit of information networks. Think about it as textbook readings ... except that the whole class reads a little part and tells the others about it. I expect that by the end of our semester together, you will look back on these assignments as very important to your overall learning experience.
    2. Assignment: Due by 4:30 PM, on the Sunday before our next class.
    3. Read A Brief History of Media Education by Bill Walsh. Also, please explore the Media Literacy Online Project at the College of Education, University of Oregon - Eugene.
    4. eMail redCap the following:
    5. In one paragraph, react to Bill Walsh's ideas of Media Education.
    6. From your exploration of the Media Literacy Online Project, point us to one on-line resource you found interesting. Explain why.
    7. One example of a possible answer: I liked (http://include the full URL) -- Education Web Sites for Children because it is a rich resource for developing unit plans in grades PK - 6.
    8. Add a Link -- add this web site to your class Web Page by using the Add a Link feature we talked about during the first weeks of class.
