UNO's College of Education is a praticipant in a "Technology Showcase" as part of meeting of Great Cities Universities. The showcase starts at 4:30 on Wednesday Nov.28, and is located at a downtown hotel (name to be provided soon). I am require to participate. As my students, you are invited to attend. Don't forget Exam 4 Working in groups ... on your video porject Fill us in ... Group 1 -- what is your name? Describe your project, such as it is. Fill us in ... Group 2 -- what is your name? ... etc. Fill us in ... Group 3 -- what is your name? ... etc. Name your group. Open a discussion area in Web'Xing ... named after your group. Post an initial message. List group members and a possible topic for your video project. What is the difference between posting a message to a discussion board and just sending each other eMail? Your challenge is to develop lesson plans using digital video and video editing where the focus of the lesson is NOT the video ... to develope a lesson where video is a tool used to focus learning in traditional content areas ... a lesson that meets State (or your school's) content standards and benchmarks. House Keeping This "House Keeping" section of our syllabus will contain information that may not be mentioned during class. But, you are still responsible for knowing and acting on the information here. This is true even if you missed class. In fact, if you do miss class, you are still responsible for every thing on this weekly syllabus, especially the assignment for next week. It is my intention to start class on time. For us this means 4:30 (not 4:35 or 4:50). Please respect your classmates and instructor -- make every effort to be here on time. If you must be late, be courteous -- sent us an eMail so that we know when to expect you. This Syllabus page will change every week. Changes will (almost always) be ready by 4:00 PM on Sunday before class. (Almost) All assignments are due at 4:00 PM on Sunday before class. Every class will start with Questions -- your questions. Show me that you are interested in our class by being prepared to ask questions, questions about our class, about computers, about any old thing. Don't make me feel silly at the beginning of class -- when I say "any questions?" -- and all I hear is "the sounds of silence." You are expected to keep up with not just your weekly assignments, but that of all your classmates. All assignments will be available to everyone vie eMail or our Discussion Board. Do you have an eMail address? If not, every UNO student can have a UNO eMail address. When sending mail to iceCap, to George, or to anyone in our class ... sign your eMail (type your name at bottom or top of every message) because it is not always obvious from your eMail address who you are. Attachments are OK, so long as they are NOT the main text of your message. Keep in mind that not everyone will be able to receive your attachment and/or open it. What to expect? You may be the technology coordinator for your school. You may be someone in your school that exhibits "best-practice" in use of technology. You may be one who "just helps" others when asked. You may just wish that you were one of the above. This class is designed to help you sharpen your skills using technology, to practice teaching these skills to others, and to understand and take advantage of the current theories in using technology in an educational setting. You will be evaluated based on new skills learned and your ability to help others acquire these skills. You will use current theories and "best practice" to develope lessons based on new knowledge. And you will develope a "school technology action plan" that supports technology integration in schools. This is documented in the objectives for our class and used to evaluate your work.
