In Class tonight:

We will try to:
  1. talk about an assignment for next week
  2. Complete our Design WebQuest
  3. Practice some skills
  4. Investigate Filamentality
  5. OK?
Let's start ....
  • The Star Spangled Banner WebQuest
  • America the Beautiful WebQuest
  • What about next week's assignment?
  • What about WebQuests?
    1. WebQuest - one model to integrate technology into lessons
    2. Some thoughts about WebQuests
    3. Experience this model ourselves
    4. Work in small groups
    5. Practice using a web browser and word processor together
    6. Practice copying and pasting URLs ... make URLs in word processors "clickable"
    7. Debate, discuss, and reach consensus
    8. And just maybe, we will learn something about instructional design?
    9. Investigate Filamentality
  • Our Design WebQuest

  • Assignment for next week:

Prepare and bring to class next week (Sept. 25) a (technology infused) Lesson Plan ...
  • Lesson Plan Format -- multimedia document to be turned in.
  • Audience may be your own students
  • or audience may be our class
  • Topic of lesson is your choice
  • prepare a 10 minute presentation to deliver to our class
  • DO NOT deliver the lesson
  • Describe for us the objectives of the lesson
  • Describe how educational technologies are used to meet lesson objectives
  • What standards or benchmarks does your lesson address?
  • If your audience is this class, benchmarks can come for the objectives for our class
  • Briefly demonstrate how educational technologies will be used when delivering lesson
  • If Audience is our class, your brief demonstration doesn't have to be so brief
  • Be sure to include assessment and evaluation methods
  • Explain how assessment and evaluation contributes to the success of the lesson
  • Your multimedia document (turn-in) should be in electronic form (not paper)
  • You can bring it to class on a floppy
  • And ... you can attach it to an eMial to George
  • You should do both.
  • Your lesson will be assessed and evaluated by the members of our class following your presentation
  • Your multimedia document (turn-in) will be evaluated by George
  • Don't be concerned
  • This is one of many opportunities you will have to complete this type of assignment
  • What I expect as our semester together ends is that your lessons improve!
  • What I expect is your evaluatation and assessment of your teaching and your student's learning can justify the use of educational technologies!
  • In class next week we will practice assessing and evaluating each other's lessons
  • How?

  • There will be a "next week" assignment (almost) every week.

  • Weekly assignments are always due on the Sunday before each class.
  • Everyone in class benefits from your timely completion of these assignments.
  • Remember, to earn an A in this class, assignments MUST be completed on time!

  • House Keeping
  • This "House Keeping" section of our syllabus will contain information that may not be mentioned during class. But, you are still responsible for knowing and acting on the information here. This is true even if you missed class.
  • In fact, if you do miss class, you are still responsible for every thing on this weekly syllabus, especially the assignment for next week.
  • It is my intention to start class on time. For us this means 4:30 (not 4:35 or 4:50). Please respect your classmates and instructor -- make every effort to be here on time. If you must be late, be courteous -- sent us an eMail so that we know when to expect you.
  • This Syllabus page will change every week. Changes will (almost always) be ready by 4:00 PM on Sunday before class.
  • (Almost) All assignments are due at 4:00 PM on Sunday before class.
  • Every class will start with Questions -- your questions. Show me that you are interested in our class by being prepared to ask questions, questions about our class, about computers, about any old thing. Don't make me feel silly at the beginning of class -- when I say "any questions?" -- and all I hear is "the sounds of silence."
  • You are expected to keep up with not just your weekly assignments, but that of all your classmates. All assignments will be available to everyone vie eMail or our Discussion Board.
  • When sending mail to redCap, to George, or to anyone in our class ... sign your eMail (type your name at bottom or top of every message) because it is not always obvious from your eMail address who you are. Attachments are OK, so long as they are NOT the main text of your message. Keep in mind that not everyone will be able to receive your attachment and/or open it.
  • Do you have an eMail address? If not, every UNO student can have a UNO eMail address.
  • Be sure you have access to eMail before our next class.
  • Top Ten Events in the modern history of computing!
