  • What is HTML?
  • Why HTML?
  • What is a page description language?
  • What is plain text?
  • If web pages are ONLY plain text ... where do the graphics come from?
  • Describe the difference between a web page and a MS Word document.
  • Why am I concerned with content and display of content?
  • Tonight we will author web pages using the Web's programming language, HTML.
  • You will practice ...
    1. Saving web pages to your own computer
    2. Reading HTML
    3. Basic formating -- line and paragraph breaks, bold, center, headings
    4. Linking to pages "owned" by others -- "absolute links"
    5. Linking to pages "owned" by you -- "relative links" (the easiest kind)
    6. Updating your class home page
    7. Using FTP to both UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD files

  • Writing HTML ... a web-based tutorial.




  • Next week:
    First Book Reviews are due Sunday October 6

    In class next week we will go on a "Digital Scavenger Hunt"
    1. Do you have a camera you want to bring to class?
    2. We do this to help understanding about how the web works and why.
    3. HTML is the programming language of the Web
    4. Sites to Explore includes references to several Websites devoted to HTML
    5. Before class next week, please explore writing HTML, use Sites to Explore to help you start.
